Plateau: 12 NDC LG chairmen pass no confidence vote on chairman, exco

At least 12 chairmen of Plateau State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and three zonal chairmen led by has passed a vote of no confidence in the state chairman of the party, Solomon Ndam and the entire members of the state executive council.

The action were supported the deputy chairman, Lawson Mafuyai

NDC Mangu local government chairman, Haruna Musa, who addressed newsmen in Jos, said that the action stemmed from the anti party activities of the state exco in supporting another governorship candidate other than the one nominated and recognised by the party.

He said the concerns of the party touched much on the direction of the party affairs, its internal democratic processes, compliance with the directives of the national headquarters and the conduct of those entrusted with leadership.

Musa said that the group is seeking to protect the party, restore internal democracy, preserve institutional discipline and prevent further damage in NDC’s public image and electoral prospects.

The text read in part, “We, the undersigned officers of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Plateau state chapter, being the deputy state chairman, three zonal chairmen and 12 of the 17 local government area chairmen, acting collectively and in our respective official capacities, hereby pass a vote of no confidence in Comrade Solomon Yakubu Ndam, the state chairman and in the state executive committee under his leadership.

The party said that”The vote of no confidence is a political and institutional declaration. It does not, of itself, remove or suspend the chairman and exco members listed below. Removal, suspension or discipline belongs to the competent organs of the party under the NDC constitution, after a. fair hearing. Its immediate effect is to place on record that officers running the party’s structures across most of the state no longer trust the present leadership.

“Parry office is a trust. Those who hold it must defend the party’s legitimate candidates, comply with lawful party decisions and promote unity and not undermine the party from within.”

The party accused the chairman and the exco of rejecting the emergence of Jonathan Akuns as the party’s governorship candidate for 2027 election and declared his nomination by NDC leadership as a fabrication and instead declared Alfred Dapal as NDC’s authentic candidate.
